Our Editorial Process

How JBAEM handles a manuscript from submission to publication: technical and integrity checks, independent peer review, editorial decisions, proofs, and how the journal uses AI.

1. Submission and technical check

Every manuscript receives a case number and is checked by the Editorial Office for completeness: declarations, ethics approval, funding, data availability and formatting.

2. Integrity check

Manuscripts are checked for overlap with published work, and the Editorial Office looks into anything that needs explaining.

3. Peer review

The handling editor invites independent reviewers. Possible conflicts of interest are checked before anyone is invited.

4. Editorial decision

The Editor-in-Chief decides once the reviews are complete: accept, minor or major revision, or decline.

5. Revision and production

Accepted work is typeset and sent to the author as a proof. Nothing is published until the author approves it.

6. Publication

The article is published open access, free to read, with a DOI.

How we use AI

AI helps editors check and compare; it never decides. Every output is advisory and must be accepted or dismissed by a named editor. Confidential comments to the editor are never sent to an AI provider.
